Chris Hughes Scholarship

Chris Hughes was a dedicated Boy Scout. He loved the out of doors and spent his time teaching Scouts to love the out of doors as much as he did. Chris was the founding Scoutmaster for Troop 454, a unit which works with Special Needs Boy Scouts. Through his love of Scouting 5 of those young men are now Eagle Scouts.

As a youth Chris was an Eagle Scout and active in his OA Lodge in Pennsylvania. He also worked in his local Scout camp during the summer. One activity constantly eluded him and that was the chance to go to Philmont Scout Reservation due to financial difficulties. His goal as an adult was to go to Philmont.

Chris went several times both as a leader of a patrol and a contingent leader. At his death in 2006 he was planning and supervising the 2006 contingent. The Hughes family has set up a scholarship fund for Scouts who would otherwise not have the opportunity to go to Philmont. Each contingent year the scholarship money is awarded to Scouts in need. The maxim amount of the scholarship is $250. An application is required and can be obtained from the contingent leader. The applications will be reviewed and the boys will be notified if they are to receive any scholarship funds.
