2018 Trek

Hello All,

Tuesday, January 2nd will be our next Advisor Contingency meeting to form the Philmont 2018 Contingent Committee. This meeting is for advisors or new volunteers that would like to be advisors on the committee. The meeting will be at the Service Center on Genisi Drive, Morganville at 7:30pm. In September we had our Full Philmont 2018 Contingent Kick off. We are now planning our Spring Shakedown Hike at Forestburg Scout Camp. The Spring Shakedown Hike is a great opportunity for the Crews to practice their skills they learned and complete some conservation hours. We still have the ability to add scouts to crews so don't wait to register and join a crew. We currently have 51 scouts and 21 advisors registered so we have limited space.

The dates for the 2018 adventure are as follows:
NJ to Denver - Thursday, June 28
Arrive at Philmont - Saturday, June 30
Denver to NJ - Thursday, July 12

The advertisements for the Philmont 2018 Trek is out on the Monmouth Council Website and registration opened March 1, 2017. Continue to think how you can help as a Crew Advisor and our Contingent about the positions listed below to see how your experience can be best utilized. Some of you may have notes or records from previous treks, please bring them.

Outline of Volunteer Positions:

Crew advisor - participate with crew on bimonthly meetings. Takes part in Philmont trip with crew. The Crew Advisor tracks financial payments for all crew members and returns a summary to the financial coordinator. Also, coordinate skills to prepare for trek.

Contingent Management - takes on pre-trek trip responsibilities such as coordination of Spring or Fall shakedown hike and or food ordering. Help with reservations or hat/shirt ordering as outlined below.

Contingent support - Helps with Fall or Spring shakedown hikes in addition to other responsibilities.

The Advisors Contingency Meetings (advisors or new advisors only) will be the first Tuesday of each month so we can use the large meeting room. Most meetings will be at the Service Center unless the date needs to be adjusted all meetings start at 7:30.
