Philmont

July 16, 1998: Homeward Bound

We were up again early as always rising at 5:30. We formed a packline at the Welcome Center at 6:45 and headed for at 7:00 breakfast. There was time for a last quick run to the Trading Post at 7:30 before boarding our buses at 7:50. At 8:03 we rolled out of Philmont. For the first part of the trip until we reached Route 64, I was looking back at the Tooth, Tooth Ridge, and most importantly the Arrowhead formation of the side of the ridge. The folklore is that if you look at the Arrowhead when you are leaving Philmont, then you will return; I certainly hope to.

My notes from here on out were non-existent but the rest of the trip consisted of a stop at Fargo's Pizza in Colorado Springs for lunch where about 55 pizzas and 50 pitchers of soda were consumed by the 110 of us.

It was then on to Denver Airport where the story there -- or at least my story there -- should probably be just left to die as we had a few problems during the check-in process. We all arrived back at Newark Airport essentially on time and with all our gear. The trek was completed successfully.
